Oracle Outlines Roadmap for Comprehensive Service Delivery Platform for Telecommunications Industry

Building on Oracle’s leadership in middleware and information management and the company’s experience in carrier-grade communications infrastructure, Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL) today outlined its roadmap for a comprehensive, standards-based Service Delivery Platform (SDP) for the telecommunications industry. The new Oracle(R) SDP is being designed to enable communication service providers, network operators and system integrators to evolve current silo-based network investments into a service-oriented architecture (SOA) and shrink the time and cost to deploy new voice data and integrated multimedia services on existing and next-generation communication Internet Protocol (IP) networks. Enterprises are expected to be able to extend their communication infrastructures with the Oracle SDP, providing a strong foundation for new Voice-over-IP (VoIP), mobile, and real-time applications. Plantronics Unveils MX203S Stereo Mobile Headset for MP3 Cell Phones

Plantronics, Inc. (NYSE: PLT – News) today introduced the new MX203S stereo mobile headset for MP3-enabled cell phones. Designed with WindSmart® technology for active users, such as runners and walking commuters, the MX203S provides a single headset to take calls and listen to stereo music with great quality and comfort. Plantronics also unveiled today two additional corded headsets, the MX200 and MX250, to provide mobile users a variety of options for talking on cell phones.

“Increasingly, consumers want devices that are simple, versatile and can keep up with their busy lives,” said Renee Niemi, vice president of Mobile and Entertainment at Plantronics. “The new MX203S accomplishes this while delivering the same high quality sound that Plantronics has provided for more than forty years.”

The market for music-enabled cell phones is growing rapidly. According to Strategy Analytics, sales of music-enabled handsets will jump from $48 million in 2004 to $886 million in 2009. In North America alone, music-enabled handsets will account for 94.7 percent of total handset sales by 2009 (January 2006).

The MX203S features Plantronics’ Flex Grip® under-the-ear design for a secure, comfortable fit while walking or running. The headset also incorporates WindSmart technology for clear conversations in outdoor, windy environments. Telecom Analyst Berg Insight Says Insurance Companies Pushing for Wireless M2M in Security systems

Insurance companies across Europe pay close attention to the latest achievements in wireless M2M security technology, according to a new report from the telecom analyst firm Berg Insight. Today, clients are frequently advised to install security systems that take advantage of wireless communication networks and satellite positioning when applying for an insurance policy. “If you buy a high-class luxury car in any European country today, your motor insurer will most probably require that it is equipped with a GSM/GPS anti-theft system”, says Tobias Ryberg, senior analyst at Berg Insight. He adds that insurance industry organisations in four European countries – Belgium, the Netherlands, Norway and the UK – have developed national industry standards for approval of vehicle tracking devices in order to give guidance to their customers regarding the choice of car security systems. Oracle Buys Portal Software

Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL) today announced that it will acquire Portal Software, Inc. (OTC BB: PRSF.PK), a leading global provider of billing and revenue management solutions for the communications and media industry, through a cash tender offer for $4.90 per share, or approximately $220 million.

“The combination of Oracle and Portal delivers the first end-to-end packaged enterprise software suite for the communications industry,” said Oracle’s President Charles Phillips. “We supply technology and applications to over 90% of communications companies worldwide today, and billing is a logical and complementary addition for those customers.”

Oracle has had a long commitment to the communications industry. 17 of the top 20 most profitable communications companies run Oracle applications. Additionally Oracle’s Siebel Telecom applications have become the standard for telco call centers and customer care. Oracle Database 10g is the leading relational database and TimesTen is the most widely used in-memory database for the communications industry. Comverse to Acquire VoIP Application Leader Netcentrex SA
