Optimizing media operations is crucial for Viaplay Group’s continued expansion into new markets. Viaplay implemented a DataMiner System to allow signal routing across their legacy SDI network and support IP-based routing video and audio streams across any IP networks LAN or WAN architecture.
“We now broadcast Premiere League in nine different countries and are adding more live sporting events every day.” Martin Bergstrom, Viaplay’s Technical Development Manager, stated that Viaplay had two central MCRs and production hubs throughout Europe. “We have to stop thinking of our contribution links as point-to-point connections. We need to use our infrastructure in the most efficient and dynamic way possible.” Skyline was an ideal partner for us. It was easy to create web-based signal routing panels that could be used across multiple technologies, including local SDI routers, MPLS and new IP multicast contributions. Mobile Links Europe, our connectivity provider, provided an API that allowed us to control a small number of crosspoints within the contribution network using DataMiner.

Viaplay can now easily share HTML-based router boards with anyone outside of the company using DataMiner Dashboard sharing. Contractors at different production sites get an email with a link that takes them to a router panel. This panel only displays the sources and destinations they require for their production. The panel will be automatically decommissioned at the end,” added Lars von Oertzen (Regional Account Manager at Skyline Communications).
