DE-CIX Expands to Mexico with Faster Internet Exchange

Posted on May 18, 2023 Written by oss

DE-CIX, the world’s leading Internet Exchange (IX) operator, recently announced its market entry into Mexico. The company-owned distributed Internet Exchange will be located in Mexico City and Santiago de Querétaro, and will provide a data center and carrier neutral, secure, and high-performance interconnection platform for ISPs, content delivery networks, network operators, cloud service providers, and enterprises of all sizes.

As an initial step, the IX – the 45th market added to DE-CIX’s global presence – will be hosted in the data centers of KIO Data Centers, and is planned to be ready for service in early 2024. Further data centers from diverse operators will be enabled in due course, extending the company’s reach in the country. DE-CIX Mexico will be directly connected to the flourishing interconnection ecosystem of DE-CIX Dallas – the largest carrier and data center neutral IX serving the Southwest region and one of the top 15 IXs in the US – allowing low latency and high-performance access to North American clouds, content, and applications. The new IX will be integrated into the North American and global DE-CIX ecosystem. From Day One, the full portfolio of DE-CIX services will be available.

As the initial step for DE-CIX’s market entry to Mexico, one data center, KIO QRO1, will be enabled in Santiago de Querétaro, and three sites – KIO MEX2, MEX4, and MEX5 – will be taken into operation in Mexico City. The platform will directly connect to the flourishing interconnection ecosystem of DE-CIX Dallas, allowing low-latency and high-performance access to North American content and applications. The growing local ecosystem of cloud service providers in Mexico – with AWS, Microsoft, Oracle, and Google, among others, already on location or planning their market entrance – will be further enriched through access to North American cloud zones, and by enabling enterprise networks to directly connect to clouds over the DE-CIX Cloud Exchange.

KIO is a data center and digital infrastructure platform with more than 20 years of experience in Colocation and IT services. KIO has 13 core data centers distributed in Mexico, Colombia, Panama, Guatemala, The Dominican Republic, and Spain. The more than a thousand clients that have trusted KIO are part of a wide digital ecosystem with diverse sectors and industries including hyperscale, clouds & IT, telecom, banking & finance, media & content, public sector, and retail, among others. KIO enhances interconnection and data exchange within the hosted ecosystem inside their multiple data centers, offering numerous advantages on system performance, neutrality, scalability, and cost efficiency in a high availability environment designed to operate mission critical systems.
