Visionael Acquires Defero to Secure Position in OSS IP Service Delivery Market

Posted on October 10, 2006 Written by oss

Visionael Corp., a leading provider of process-oriented inventory, provisioning and activation solutions for IP service delivery, has announced the acquisition of Defero AB, a Swedish operations support system (OSS) solutions provider. The deal strengthens Visionael’s ability to support service providers in the rollout of next-generation services across IP networks. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Defero, headquartered in Gothenburg, is a privately held company with extensive experience in OSS and process automation. The company’s founders have helped launch the operations of numerous service providers since the mid-1980s.

Defero’s opeXtream(TM) software allows next-generation service operators to automate service activation. It is especially proficient in the service provisioning of more complex services, such as those based on multi-protocol label switching (MPLS). Defero currently has several major customers using its software, including TDC Song AB and Swedish Railways.

In a separate announcement today, Visionael unveiled a new Service Automation Suite that includes its newly acquired technology and expertise. The combined solution enables automated service activation without manual interaction, breaking down the technological silos between multiple network services, and offering service providers and managed service providers one transparent platform for the definition of services, regardless of technology and vendor. This ensures that information can be stored across the entire span of a next-generation network, eliminating inefficiencies and delivering the highest quality of service.

“Defero’s OSS solutions and expertise are a natural fit with Visionael’s offerings,” said Craig Nichols, president and chief executive officer of Visionael. “Together, we provide a compelling solution to service providers faced with the challenges of speeding the deployment of new services. We offer a best-of-breed, automated, self-service provisioning and activation tool that provides a holistic view of network resource allocation, as well as a much more accurate view of the real costs associated with a service deployment.”

“Today’s service providers are struggling to quickly and successfully integrate information from their service, customer and network systems with their existing infrastructures,” said Leo Palmberg, chief executive officer of Defero, who will stay on to head Visionael’s new service automation organization. “In most cases, CRM, charging, content, order delivery and other applications are typically off doing their own thing instead of collaboratively talking and working with each other. Defero’s years of experience working with telecom operators, combined with Visionael’s history in IP networks, have enabled us to create a joint offering that successfully addresses this problem by linking these applications in a way that openly but uniquely addresses the specific needs of each service provider.”

About Defero
Defero, founded in 2003, is anchored by its founders’ experience in evaluating, purchasing and operating telecom OSS solutions. The company’s experience also covers the design, maintenance and product management of service provider networks from years of holding senior positions at some of the largest service providers in northern Europe.

The company has developed an OSS solution that, with a low capital expenditure, enables service providers to gain control of the deployment and activation of services, using an approach where current OSS/BSS and legacy systems can be integrated and used in an overall provisioning process with or without manual interaction.
