GSM Footprint of America Movil Increases with Entrance into the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico Markets with Amdocs Billing

Posted on March 1, 2008 Written by oss

Amdocs (NYSE: DOX), the leading provider of customer experience systems, announced the success of a three-month project to establish Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) billing operations at America Movil’s subsidiary in the Dominican Republic – Claro Codetel. Amdocs also announced it was selected for an additional project to roll out GSM billing operations at America Movil’s subsidiary in Puerto Rico – Claro. Amdocs Billing has been supporting services based on Code and Time Division Multiple Access (CDMA and TDMA) standards at Claro Codetel in the Dominican Republic and at Claro in Puerto Rico for the past six years and is now being extended to support the introduction of GSM and General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) voice, data and roaming offerings. Amdocs will also provide America Movil with the associated future maintenance services.

America Movil (BMV: AMX) (NYSE: AMX) (Nasdaq: AMOV) (LATIBEX: XAMXL) is the leading provider of wireless services in Latin America and in the Caribbean. With 153 million customers in 17 countries, it has the fifth largest subscriber base in the world. In December 2006, America Movil acquired Claro Codetel, the largest communications service provider in the Dominican Republic. In March 2007 it acquired the largest provider in Puerto Rico – Claro. With the Amdocs Billing deployment, America Movil is expanding its GSM footprint into these two markets, with the goal of offering state-of-the-art products and seamless roaming across its vast operations over a common GSM network.

Amdocs has a long track record of successful deliveries, including deployments at other America Movil subsidiaries, which translate into reusable best practices. “Amdocs offers ‘one-stop shop’ accountability for the industry’s broadest portfolio of operations and business support systems and services, from strategy and planning business consulting to maintenance,” said Charles Born, vice president of corporate communications at Amdocs. “This ensures long-term total cost of ownership advantages for our customers and quick and sure results — which is what America Movil was after.”
