GSM 3G Middle East Event Coming Soon

Reaches into Highest-Growth Arena

Informa Telecoms & Media announced that the 13th annual GSM>3G Middle East congress and exhibition is attracting interest from telcos in a wide variety of markets across the region.

Being held on 15-16 December 2008 in Dubai, the conference and exhibition continues to be well supported by operators from the region’s most developed markets, featuring presentations from Etisalat, the official event endorser, du, Zain, Saudi Telecom and Nawras.

A newer feature is the very strong presence from markets where huge growth opportunities are available for operators and their suppliers. The Islamic Republic of Iran will be represented by Mr Vahid Sadoughi, CEO of MCI, the mobile business of national incumbent carrier TCI. This is an exciting time to be doing business in Iran. A third national mobile license is expected to be sold soon. Licensing interest has also been reported from a number of Middle Eastern companies as well as Telekom Malaysia International and MegaFon of Russia. TCI is also set to be part-privatized in the near future and opportunities also exist around the availability of the RF spectrum suitable for the deployment of WiMAX across Iran.

Another challenging but potentially very rewarding market is Iraq. Ther is a large population that remains relatively under-served and rich opportunities exist for mobile operators, with reported interest from a number of regional players. Iraq’s existing operators will be well represented at the event. Delegates will be joined by Dr. Diar Ahmad, CEO of GSM mobile operator Asiacell, whose rival Korek Telecom will also be represented by Dr. Hameed Akrawi, the company’s Deputy CEO.

This Iraqi delegation will be boosted by the presence of Mr. Suleiman Lamaani, CEO of CDMA WLL operator Itisaluna.

Informa Telecoms & Media is confident that this year’s conference offers access to an ever more diverse range of thoughtful leaders, representing both high-ARPU markets and those with very high growth potential. Hear from 60 strong panel of expert speakers, including 18 mobile operators and 16 from beyond the pure-play mobile space, comprising 4 WiMAX operators, 4 incumbent carriers, 4 Other Licensed Operators and 4 MVNOs.

Join over 2,500 decision makers from 80+ countries and the entire telecoms value chain to network, do business, and understand how telcos can meet the challenges for a converging broadband world.

Co-located with the GSM Arab World’s Plenary meeting and incorporating the Middle Eastern Telecom Leaders’ Summit they have brought together an unbeatable line-up of speakers to deliver actionable strategic insights.

The 2 day conference and networking exhibition, which will be showcasing the products and services of over 160 international companies, will take place in the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, UAE and is billed to set the Telco Agenda for the Middle East. Attendance is free to operators and regulators registering before 24 November 2008 and early booking discounts apply to all others.
