Columbus Communications and Sigma Systems Sign Multi-year Arrangement

Posted on June 23, 2008 Written by oss

Columbus Communications and Sigma Systems unveiled a deal that expands the long-standing relationship between the companies. According to the terms of the multi-year license agreement, Sigma will extend its existing deployment, which automates the fulfillment of high-speed data services and applications, to cover broadband voice over IP (VoIP). Serving a diverse and growing customer base in the Bahamas, Jamaica, Grenada and Trinidad & Tobago, Columbus Communications is one of the Caribbean region’s most technologically advanced broadband providers.

“With Sigma’s advanced IP service fulfillment solutions the company has proven its ability to grow and scale to meet our requirements to power a double-play service offering for our subscribers,” said Andre Foster, VP of Information Technology for Columbus Communications. “Over the years, Sigma has provided us with the highest level of customer support, both in terms of the functionality of its software and the results of installations and technical support, and we are pleased to be taking our partnership to the next level.”

Sigma Systems’ solution for Columbus Communications provides advanced IP service fulfillment of high-speed data and VoIP services, including management of the call management server, voicemail platform and BSS system end-to-end automation; and also includes customer premise device provisioning. In addition, the solution includes service order entry for voice services. In the future, Columbus Communications plans to utilize its Sigma deployment to extend subscriber self-care integration to manage telephony call features and feature preferences.

“Deregulation and the general adoption of voice telephony services are evident in the Caribbean and Latin America (CALA) region. This, coupled with the quality of upgraded digital networks, is enabling operators like Columbus Communications to truly differentiate themselves by expanding services beyond video and high-speed Internet,” said Tim Spencer, President and COO for Sigma Systems. “We are proud to be working with Columbus Communications to power a double-play offering as the company evolves towards an all-play environment, in which any service can be delivered over any network technology to any device.”

As part of Columbus Communications footprint into Jamaica, Trinidad, and Grenada, Sigma enables the management of multiple, geographically diverse systems from a centralized OSS Platform. The Sigma implementation includes integration support to their softswitch and voicemail platform as well as to their BSS system.

The flexibility and agility of Sigma Systems’ solutions will allow Columbus Communications to accommodate different deployment scenarios, package new features and services on a regional/per country basis, and support multi-vendor integration from a common OSS platform.

Sigma has a growing footprint of seven service providers in the CALA region, covering the Bahamas, Jamaica, Trinidad, Puerto Rico, Honduras, El Salvador, Grenada, and Costa Rica . The company has delivered approximately 100 million managed services for individual, bundled and converged services worldwide. In addition, Sigma has the most widely deployed residential VoIP service management solution, with over six million lines of voice deployed worldwide.

Columbus Communications Ltd. has been providing cable television services in the Caribbean since 1995, and Internet services since 2000. Its geographic reach includes the Bahamas ( Nassau ), Jamaica, Grenada and Trinidad through one of the most technically advanced cable television systems in the world with a fully functional two-way cable TV system, enabling interactive cable TV, VoIP and high-speed data services.
