C-COR Transitions Service Management Assets to Sigma Systems

Posted on August 9, 2006 Written by oss

C-COR Incorporated (NASDAQ:CCBL)(www.c-cor.com) and Sigma Systems (www.sigma-systems.com) have announced that they have agreed to terms whereby C-COR will transition the product development and support for the C-COR Service Activation Manager (SAM) and Service Provisioning Manager (SPM) to Sigma Systems.

“This is about putting innovative OSS solutions on a fast track,” stated Robert Cruickshank, Vice President, OSS Market Strategy, C-COR. “For customers of our SAM and SPM, folding the technology and support of these products under Sigma Systems will provide them with broader flexibility and choice in service activation and provisioning functionality. For the cable industry, applying the combined experience and expertise of C-COR and Sigma to the OSS requirements of future converged network architectures will speed innovation and provide the shortest path to a fully integrated OSS solution for voice, video, and data over wireline or wireless networks.”

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to be completed this quarter. Upon closing of the transaction, Sigma will obtain an exclusive interest from C-COR in the SAM and SPM products and assume all of the service provider licensing and software maintenance contracts for these products. C-COR will continue to wholly own its other OSS products, including Key Distribution Center (KDC), Policy Service Manager (PSM(TM)), Network Service Manager (NSM(TM)), Mobile Workforce Manager (MWM(TM)), and CableEdge(R).

C-COR and Sigma Systems have also agreed to terms whereby the companies will co-market and co-sell integrated OSS solutions to the global cable marketplace. This joint collaboration will leverage the synergies among their respective OSS product lines to expedite the additional functionalities and capabilities required to meet the evolving needs of cable operators. As a result, operators will have access to an OSS product portfolio that combines automated order management, service provisioning and activation, service authorization, resource management and self-care capabilities from Sigma’s Service Management Platform with the functionalities of C-COR’s complete line of bandwidth and resource management, policy service management, automated workforce, and service assurance solutions. C-COR and Sigma are worldwide leaders in OSS for cable with deployments throughout North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific and have consistently demonstrated their industry leadership through continued involvement with CableLabs(R).

“Sigma is delighted to announce this joint agreement, as it clearly cements our position as a Worldwide Leader in Quad-Play Service Management,” said Andy Jasuja, Chairman, CEO Sigma Systems. “As a result of this agreement, Sigma has a total of 47 Deployments Worldwide, 20+ VoIP deployments, and 20M subscribers managed across Voice, Video, Data, ISP, Wireless and emerging markets.”

“The transition of C-COR SAM and SPM products to Sigma and agreement to co-promote OSS solutions provide our customers with a complete consolidation of provisioning solutions,” said Tim Spencer, Sigma Systems President & COO. “It allows our current and future customers to take advantage of Sigma’s ongoing R&D investment and the combination of two great sets of technology. Our strategic direction is geared towards providing All Play Service Management Solutions for all our customers – an integrated multi service management environment for content, entertainment, and communications services across legacy networks, today’s service platforms, and tomorrow’s truly converged service delivery networks.”
