Vodafone Ghana Chooses XINTEC Fraud Management System

1:43 pm   -   July 20th, 2009

Vodafone Ghana – formerly Telecom Ghana – recently announced the decision to install and operate the revolutionary lightweight fraud management platform FMSlite™ from XINTEC SA, the fast-emerging global provider of fraud, revenue assurance, and roaming solutions.

The newly commercialised fraud management system will bring immediate benefits to the African network with its ability to detect and prevent fraudulent subscriber behaviour and network abuse in near-real time, protecting the operator’s revenue and profitability.

Telecoms fraud is a worldwide problem costing operators some USD 55 billion annually, according to the U.S.-based Communications Fraud Control Association (CFCA). African operators can be particularly at risk, often having the greatest exposure to revenue loss if they are ill-equipped to deal with the problem.
XINTEC has pioneered the concept of a lightweight, yet powerful and robust fraud management system (FMSlite™) designed to detect fraud at multiple levels (pre- and postpaid, home network, roaming, fixed-line, etc) making its FMSlite™ the world’s first converged platform of its kind. It also features an advanced SIM Box Detector™ module to detect interconnect bypass fraud in near real time.

“We were looking for a cost-effective and user-friendly solution that would meet our needs, without the complexity of a total fraud management system costing millions of dollars” commented Vodafone Fraud Consultant Robbie Lynch, “so the decision for FMSlite™ was clear.”

“We’re in the business of protecting operator profitability”, said CEO Sean Killeen. “With increasing competition between players in emerging markets, mobile operators simply can no longer afford the cost of fraud. We are delighted to have been selected by Vodafone Ghana, and this win marks a strategic entry point into the African continent.”
