TeleSciences Launches Data Management Solution for Siemens EWSD Switches

4:07 am   -   February 2nd, 2007

TeleSciences, Inc., a leader in providing revenue support solutions to fixed, mobile and IP service providers and equipment vendors, has announced the availability of a data collection and mediation tool for Siemens® EWSD® switches. The TeleSciences™ EventDynamics™ Edge Server, configured for the Siemens EWSD switch, introduces operational efficiencies and reduces maintenance costs by providing new data management functionalities for communications service providers.

TeleSciences EventDynamics, the new mediation engine that offers powerful data capture, correlation, filtering and distribution functions, now offers 100% compatibility with the Siemens EWSD switch. Service providers operating this widely deployed switch can benefit from secure, two-way data transfer over TCP/IP infrastructures resulting in cost and time efficiencies while having access to leading edge mediation functionality.

Faster AMA Data Collection and Reduced Communication Costs
Operators of the Siemens EWSD typically deliver AMA data using BX.25 modem and dial-up configurations, often suffering from slow connections and limits on data volume. This also results in mounting access charges from hours of dial-up activity. With the TeleSciences EventDynamics solution, these limitations and inefficiencies are removed. The EventDynamics Edge Server uses affordable, secure IP connectivity for reliable, protected transfer up to 20 times faster with a corresponding increase of up to 20 times more data volume.

No More “SneakerNet”
Additionally, critical data backup is usually performed manually by inserting and recording data on removable DAT tapes. The same is true for uploading software patches or database reinstallations. The time and cost to maintain this so called “SneakerNet” approach can be enormously crippling to service providers. The EventDynamics centralized approach to switch management takes away expensive man-hours and burdensome tape handling in return for significant cost and time savings.

“There are thousands of Siemens EWSD switches around the globe, with over 175 carriers using them in central offices and remote locations in North America alone,” said John Loughlin, CTO for TeleSciences. “As service providers add NGN switches they’ll still maintain operations for their legacy switches such as the EWSD. With our TeleSciences EventDynamics solution, these operators can now reliably extend the life of their EWSD investment while bridging to eventual NGNs.”

Powerful, Integrated Event Usage Data Management to Increase Billable Traffic
Currently in use throughout the world with such switches as the Nortel® DMS series, the Lucent® 5ESS® and now the Siemens EWSD, the EventDynamics engine is one of the few event usage data management systems that seamlessly integrates post-paid and pre-paid service environments. Unlike other solutions that are cobbled-together from disparate systems, TeleSciences easily spans multiple service environments, including mobile, converged, blended, cable and IP.

In addition to the two-way data transfer for more efficient data backup and updates, EventDynamics offers service providers an extremely intuitive user interface allowing network operators to easily adjust and add business rules for sophisticated event usage data processing.

Another function widely valued by existing TeleSciences customers is the proprietary Phantom Traffic Identifier. This revenue-enhancing tool isolates and categorizes suspected phantom traffic – calls that terminate at the local exchange switch and lack sufficient CDR detail for billing – and enriches the CDR for billing or validation. Customers report increased billable usage of up to 5%.

Latest in Ongoing Partnership with Siemens
Today’s announcement follows previous solutions developed for Siemens switch environments. Recently, TeleSciences and Siemens announced availability of their integrated solution for next generation networks. This powerful mediation solution integrates the EventDynamics engine with Siemens’ SURPASS™ hiQ 8000 Softswitch and SURPASS hiG 1200 Media Gateway for converged, broadband environments.

“Our customers are pleased that we continue to leverage our heritage for providing leading edge solutions for legacy networks,” said John Loughlin, while adding, “It allows them to reliably operate proven switches such as the Siemens EWSD and get more for that investment; even as they turn to us for revenue support tools for more advanced, converged and NGN network environments.”
