Telcordia Drives MVNO Momentum as Flying J Launches Wireless Services

11:01 pm   -   April 4th, 2006

Telcordia (www.telcordia.com) today announced that Flying J Inc, a leader in the highway hospitality services industry, has selected the Telcordia Hosted Solution for Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) to launch its highly targeted prepaid wireless service to the nation’s transportation industry. Telcordia’s first enterprise customer for this solution, Flying J Inc will launch the service nationwide this month.

Telcordia has taken a leadership position in the MVNO market by providing key customers with a seamless, turnkey solution to enable them to quickly offer differentiated services and plans to their subscribers. The MVNO business model has opened the door for many enterprise companies such as Flying J to offer wireless services to a very targeted audience such as the transportation industry.

“Flying J recognizes the need our professional driver customer has to communicate with family and business associates while on the road and across the nation. We are launching Go Smart service with simple, no commitment, prepaid plans that minimize the barrier to sign up. Our service includes an unlimited nights and weekends option that is important to this market segment,” said Jeff Foote, President of Flying J Communications. “Telcordia provides us the ability to manage this service on a real time basis essential in a prepaid offering. Their superior technology and unmatched expertise allow us to be creative with our plan design and to deploy quickly and efficiently.”

MVNOs are growing in popularity across the U.S. and around the world because of the benefits realized by all parties. Customers who might not otherwise purchase wireless services often sign up with MVNOs who tailor offerings to the specific needs of particular demographic groups. MVNOs benefit from the ability to extend their brands and open up new revenue opportunities without incurring the costs associated with building and managing network infrastructure.

“Flying J has a very targeted and loyal customer base, which is a significant key in being a successful MVNO,” said Doug Patterson, Vice President, Telecom Services, Telcordia. “Telcordia’s comprehensive product portfolio provides a seamless solution for companies such as Flying J to continually expand offerings to better serve its customers.”

Telcordia’s Hosted Solution, which enables companies such as Flying J to offer high-quality, prepaid wireless services without having to own or manage a network, features real-time call management, helps eliminate revenue leakage and facilitates a positive end-customer experience. The deployment of the Telcordia Hosted Solution dramatically reduces upfront capital investment in technical infrastructure and minimizes the need to hire skilled telecom resources enabling the company to launch service quickly. For the Hosted Solution, Telcordia works closely with Sprint, who is providing access via its proven nationwide digital network.
