New Plantronics Bluetooth Headsets Embody Sound Innovation - Plantronics Voyager 510 Bluetooth Headset Receives ‘Innovation’ Award

7:30 pm   -   March 10th, 2006

Plantronics, Inc. (NYSE: PLT) today announced two new Bluetooth(R) headsets, the Plantronics Discovery(TM) 645 and Plantronics Voyager 510 with WindSmart(R), that incorporate new technologies for excellent audio clarity during conversations. The Voyager 510 is the first Bluetooth headset on the market to include both a noise-canceling microphone and wind-reduction technology for brilliant sound in windy environments. The Discovery 645 includes a digital signal processing (DSP) chip to actively reduce background noise when talking.

A recent test of the new Voyager 510 headset by the National Analysis Center, a leading independent testing lab for the wireless phone industry, found that “the Plantronics Voyager 510 Bluetooth headset supports an innovative boom microphone design which greatly minimizes the effects of wind noise. A high level of customer satisfaction should be realized due to the exceptional audio quality along with the ability to use the headset in outdoor windy conditions.” For its superior wind noise performance, the National Analysis Center awarded Voyager 510 with its “Innovation” award.

“As Bluetooth headsets gain in popularity, consumers are using them in every imaginable environment — from the car to night clubs to baseball games,” said Renee Niemi, vice president of Mobile and Entertainment at Plantronics. “By adding advanced sound technologies to the Discovery and Voyager products, we are providing consumers with the best of both worlds: products that look great and sound fantastic, regardless of where they are talking.”

The Plantronics Voyager 510 with WindSmart also features a new stylish black and silver color scheme, and includes multipoint technology for seamlessly switching between two Bluetooth devices. Other product features include:

— Lightweight, foldable design for all-day wearing comfort and easy
storage,
— One-touch call answer/end, last number redial and voice activated
dialing,
— Boom swivels for use on either ear for optional wearing preference,
— Support for Bluetooth headset and hands-free profiles,
— Up to 6 hours talk time and up to 100 hours standby time, and
— Freedom to roam up to 33 feet away from voice-enabled Bluetooth
devices.

The Plantronics Voyager 510 has an estimated street price of US $79 and is available today at http://www.plantronics.com/, as well as Cingular, Fry’s, Office Depot, Radio Shack, and Sprint/Nextel, among others.

Plantronics Discovery 645 - The Ultimate DSP Bluetooth Headset

The Discovery 645 incorporates the same style and design as the internationally acclaimed Discovery 640, which recently won the prestigious Industry Forum (iF) Product Design Award, and now includes DSP for crystal clear calls. Weighing less than two nickels, the Discovery 645 is extremely discrete and one of the lightest DSP Bluetooth headset on the market. Discovery 645 product features include:

— Innovative AAA pocket charger that delivers up to 9 hours talk time,
— Unique vibrate ring in charging pocket, last number redial, and voice
dialing,
— Four adapters that work with most cell phone chargers to charge
headset,
— Three soft gel ear tips for long-wearing comfort, and
— Chrome-finish carrying case.

The Discovery 645 has an estimated street price of US $149 and will be available in late March at http://www.plantronics.com/ and leading retailers and carriers.

Bailout with a price: Chapter 11 bankruptcy

Mention a corporate bailout in the nation's capital these days and chances are someone will offer a harsh condition to go along with it. Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Lately, the term 'prepackaged bankruptcy' has been gaining currency in the halls of Congress as lawmakers struggle with pleas for help from the auto industry.

The idea, embraced by some Democrats and Republicans, would extend taxpayer help in exchange for a company undergoing an accelerated Chapter 11 reorganization. The arrangement could represent a model, or a deterrent, for any other strapped companies considering seeking government help.

Stocks heads to lower open ahead

Wall Street headed for a lower open Wednesday with investors worried about the economic fallout if Detroit's Big Three automakers are unable to persuade lawmakers to give them a $25 billion bailout.

The market will again be glued to testimony given during the session by top executives from General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler LLC. They are asking Congress for a massive infusion of cash to prevent millions of layoffs, stave off bankruptcy and stabilize the companies.

Investors are concerned at the repercussions should any of the three automakers collapse, an event that could ripple through an already battered economy. Congressional Democrats have proposed using part of the $700 billion financial bailout package to pump into the ailing auto industry, but Republicans oppose such an approach.

HP shares soar after solid 4Q outlook

Hewlett-Packard Co. offered a fourth-quarter outlook slightly above Wall Street's expectations Tuesday despite the sagging economy, going against the grain even as other technology bellwethers have slashed forecasts and posted weak results in recent weeks.

Its shares climbled more than 13 percent in morning trading.

The Palo Alto, Calif.-based company expects earnings of 84 cents per share and adjusted earnings of $1.03 per share for the three months ended in October. This is slightly better than the $1 per share, excluding items, that analysts polled by Thomson Reuters are expecting.

Wall Street appeared ready to retreat again Tuesday, as stock futures sank amid nervousness about the fate of Detroit's Big Three auto makers.

On Tuesday, executives of General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler LLC and the head of the United Auto Workers union will testify at a Senate Banking Committee hearing. The automakers, seeking $25 billion in government aid, have the backing of Democratic congressional leaders, but the Bush administration and Republican lawmakers are against the proposed bailout.
