Neural Technologies Selected by MTN South Africa for Fraud Management

5:39 pm   -   July 20th, 2008

Neural Technologies (Nt) announced that mobile telecoms operator MTN South Africa has migrated over to its Minotaur™ Fraud Management Solution.

MTN migrated to Minotaur™ from the former Cerebrus RE solution, which Neural Technologies has been supporting since it acquired Cerebrus Solutions at the end of 2004. MTN took the decision to upgrade to Minotaur™ following an extensive validation ‘gap analysis’ and market screening which demonstrated Minotaur’s™ throughput capability, wide-ranging functionality and its flexibility in terms of configuration.

Throughout the migration process Neural Technologies worked closely together with local partner Concilium to fully understand MTN’s requirements and ensure a well-aligned approach. The quality of the local support and the effective communication provided by Concilium was a further factor cited by MTN in the selection decision.

Nadia Alli, General Manager Business Finance and Assurance for MTN South Africa, said, “Minotaur™ allows us to configure our own rules, thresholds and data streams, which will give us enhanced accuracy and greater control over changing fraud scenarios. We have already seen a huge improvement in false positive rates and have identified new types of fraud, in addition to highlighting some billing irregularities. Minotaur™ also assisted us in identifying network configuration issues by monitoring the ticket trends.”

Luke Taylor, Nt’s Commercial Director, stated, “Minotaur™ is an extremely flexible and scalable solution that will not only meet MTN’s current needs but will continue to satisfy their future objectives as they provide new services and move into other markets. We are delighted to be working with MTN and look forward to enhancing the company’s fraud detection capability and, in turn, improve its revenue.”
