NetMotion’s Mobile VPN is implemented by Ameren’s field force for seamless wireless connectivity

NetMotion Wireless announced today that Ameren turned to NetMotion to maximize Ameren’s mobile field force productivity. Mobility XE, NetMotion’s Mobile VPN software, is used by more than 1,900 Ameren employees to secure connections to applications and customer records across wireless coverage gaps and across various networks. Ameren provides energy services to 2.4 million customers in Missouri and Illinois and natural gas to nearly one million customers.

Today, Ameren manages an employee field force of thousands that monitor Ameren’s services and travel to and from Ameren facilities and customer homes to measure utility usage. The workers use cellular networks to register customer account information and respond to outages. With Mobility XE, Ameren employees can roam between wireless and wired networks and across coverage gaps, while maintaining reliable applications. In addition, Mobility XE allows Ameren’s IT administrators to centrally manage the mobile devices in the field, including specifying application and bandwidth priorities.

“Ameren is at the forefront of technological innovators in the utility sector,” said Pam Cory, VP Marketing, NetMotion Wireless. “With Mobility XE, Ameren’s field force is able to maintain secure connections to corporate resources in the field throughout their 64,000 square miles of service area.”

NetMotion also announced today that it will focus its efforts to serve the mobile deployments of other electric, natural gas, water and utility companies. NetMotion currently supports the mobile field forces of a number of utilities, including Arizona Public Service, Atlanta Gas & Light, ConEdison, Dominion Resources, Jacksonville Electric Authority, Kansas City Power & Light, Pentair Water, Philadelphia Gas Works, Puget Sound Energy, and Sacramento Water and Sewer District.

Around the globe, more than 1,200 businesses and government agencies rely on NetMotion’s Mobility XE to mitigate some of the most common challenges in mobile deployments today, including application stability as users move in and out of wireless coverage areas and seamless roaming between Wi-Fi and wide-area cellular networks. In addition, the company provides advanced security and network management controls that extend corporate security policies to mobile devices, while also allowing customers to use their existing mobile investments to reliably deploy real-time applications, such as Voice over IP (VoIP) and streaming video.
