NEC Selected by NTT DOCOMO to Provide Operations Support Systems
NEC Corporation (NEC) today announced its selection by NTT DOCOMO, INC. to provide Operations Support Systems (OSS) that will be deployed by one of NEC’s United States-based subsidiaries, NetCracker Technology Corporation.
DOCOMO is driving the construction of IP networks in preparation for the launch of its commercial Long Term Evolution (LTE) services in 2010. The OSS will manage the Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (WDM) network that links core networks and base stations, as well as control communications equipment, including L2 switches in LTE networks.
The system improves the quality and efficiency of network design by providing WDM network path design capabilities, even for multi-vendor networks. This enables the construction of optimized networks for LTE and reduces CAPEX. Additionally, the system reduces OPEX by unifying network operations and making common reports that were formerly different for each separated network.
NetCracker’s top class product portfolio and technological strength in the OSS field is supported by its delivery record with a variety of major international communications service companies.
NEC views its selection for this project as part of DOCOMO’s high evaluation of NetCracker’s OSS product portfolio, as well as NEC’s extensive know-how and delivery record for DOCOMO. Looking forward, NEC will continue cooperatively supporting DOCOMO’s business expansion through total solutions, and contributing to the further growth of next generation mobile infrastructure throughout global markets.
