Intec Billing Wins Interconnect Billing Deal with Dutch Incumbent KPN

8:10 pm   -   May 9th, 2006

Intec Billing, a supplier of BSS/OSS solutions to the global telecoms industry, has announced a win for core components from its market leading billing family, Intec Interconnect V7 and Intec Interconnect PREP, with the international wholesale voice division within KPN, the Dutch national operator. The deal is worth in excess of two and a half million dollars. KPN Global Carrier Services B.V. (KGCS) is an integrated part of the fixed division of KPN. It provides termination of international voice traffic originating outside and inside the Netherlands to any place in the world.

Its services include:
- International Wholesale Voice Services in different quality classes and International Direct Dialing: services for calls originating or terminating in the Netherlands;
- Transit: transit through a network of international calls from one foreign network to another foreign network;
- Wholesale freephone services: transport of international toll free numbers;
- Solutions for mobile operators: termination of voice traffic, SMS Interworking, MMS Interworking and UMTS based services (Mobile Matrix); and
- Solutions for ISPs: voice access services connecting voice over internet protocol (“VOIP”) traffic to switched networks internationally.

KGCS operates worldwide through primary sales/distribution channels located in The Hague, New York, Miami, Hong Kong, Rio de Janeiro, Cape Town, Istanbul and Singapore.

KGCS’s decision to invest in a new interconnect billing solution was driven by the need to meet the future demands of next generation services within the international wholesale voice environment and was guided by a close consultative process begun in 2002 to develop a phased migration strategy with a minimum impact on KGCS’s business. Intec InterconnecT V7, which allows operators to bill for wholesale traffic sent to and received from other carriers, is the world’s most widely installed interconnect billing system.

“KGCS expects increased accuracy of progressively more complex wholesale billing information, greater flexibility of the overall system in allowing complex changes to be made quickly, support for new services, synergy benefits and faster processing of bill cycles”, said Edwin van Ierland, senior vice president of KPN Global Carrier Services. “The solution will also impact positively on partner relations with an improved level of management of our international interconnect agreements.”

KPN, the Dutch national operator, provides a portfolio of modern, high quality telecommunications services to its customers. The Netherlands, KPN’s key market, is one of the most competitive in Europe but KPN has successfully maintained its leadership positions in all key segments. The KPN strategy is to continue to provide traditional telephony services, address the converging worlds of Internet, fixed telephony, mobile telephony and moving images, launch new services including VoIP, Mobile TV and Video on Demand over ADSL, and expand its mobile customer base with innovative, market-driven propositions.

Peter Deane, EMEA managing director commented: “This is a substantial contract with a major European player. KPN chose the Intec Interconnect solution over several options to replace a number of bespoke applications and in-house systems. It is great news for Intec that KPN picked our people and solution to help it maximise on the growing number of opportunities in next-generation telecommunications.”

Stocks heads to lower open ahead

Wall Street headed for a lower open Wednesday with investors worried about the economic fallout if Detroit's Big Three automakers are unable to persuade lawmakers to give them a $25 billion bailout.

The market will again be glued to testimony given during the session by top executives from General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler LLC. They are asking Congress for a massive infusion of cash to prevent millions of layoffs, stave off bankruptcy and stabilize the companies.

Investors are concerned at the repercussions should any of the three automakers collapse, an event that could ripple through an already battered economy. Congressional Democrats have proposed using part of the $700 billion financial bailout package to pump into the ailing auto industry, but Republicans oppose such an approach.

HP shares soar after solid 4Q outlook

Hewlett-Packard Co. offered a fourth-quarter outlook slightly above Wall Street's expectations Tuesday despite the sagging economy, going against the grain even as other technology bellwethers have slashed forecasts and posted weak results in recent weeks.

Its shares climbled more than 13 percent in morning trading.

The Palo Alto, Calif.-based company expects earnings of 84 cents per share and adjusted earnings of $1.03 per share for the three months ended in October. This is slightly better than the $1 per share, excluding items, that analysts polled by Thomson Reuters are expecting.

Stock futures fall ahead of automakers' testimony

Wall Street appeared ready to retreat again Tuesday, as stock futures sank amid nervousness about the fate of Detroit's Big Three auto makers.

On Tuesday, executives of General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler LLC and the head of the United Auto Workers union will testify at a Senate Banking Committee hearing. The automakers, seeking $25 billion in government aid, have the backing of Democratic congressional leaders, but the Bush administration and Republican lawmakers are against the proposed bailout.
