Ingres Debuts its Business Intelligence Appliance

8:09 pm   -   August 22nd, 2007

Ingres Corporation, the leading open source information management company for enterprise applications, recently delivered the first open source application-specific software appliance.

The Ingres Icebreaker BI Appliance enables Ingres to offer enterprise customers an integrated solution for Business Intelligence (BI) applications with a cost effective price point, easy installation, and single maintenance and support for the entire software stack. The Ingres Icebreaker BI Appliance builds upon the company’s leadership position in open source database appliances and creates a powerful enterprise-class ecosystem for customers and partners.

“Business Intelligence projects are one of the highest priorities for CIOs worldwide,” said Deb Woods, Ingres Vice President of product management. “ Our BI appliance software offering represents a strong commitment by Ingres to the business intelligence arena. This optimisation of our products combined with our relationship with JasperSoft offers customers a comprehensive solution that can address costs of ownership, integration and maintenance. When combined with our subscription model, we are delivering unparalleled value to our customers.”

“The new Ingres IceBreaker BI Appliance is a great solution for Ingres customers who need advanced analysis and reporting capabilities, as well as enterprise-class support,” said Paul Doscher, CEO of JasperSoft. “JasperSoft BI products are already popular with many of Ingres’ enterprise customers around the world.”

About the BI Appliance
Software appliances are applications that are combined with a customised operating system where all the components are integrated and tested to work together with only a single install required. The Ingres Icebreaker BI Appliance is a fully featured suite: the BI software resides on top of the company’s Icebreaker foundation – which consists of the Ingres 2006 database integrated with Linux – and is powered by JasperSoft’s open source BI suite. This combination addresses the existing challenges in BI deployment and application, including costs of developing a data warehouse, expanding BI to additional users and managing and maintaining the software stack. This has the potential to greatly accelerate time to market for new BI projects for end-users and ISVs.

Acceptance on a Global Level
Independent solutions vendors worldwide have been anticipating the ability to offer customers an easier, cost-effective way to manage and deploy business intelligence solutions.

“Wipro is continuously looking to deliver higher value to its customers. Our partnership with Ingres supports this vision. The Ingres Icebreaker BI Appliance with its pre-integrated and pre-configured technology components provides an accelerated implementation and an easy to manage technology option to the customer with a very compelling price to performance advantage. Wipro’s IT Performance Management Solution Offering: an end-to-end BI solution to effectively manage IT Operations, is based on this technology – delivering an enterprise-class solution on an Open Source business model,” said Pawan Kumar, Vice President, BI DW Practice, Wipro Technologies.

“Satyam has built a practice around Ingres in its continued strategy to impart greater value to its customers. Ingres’s Icebreaker BI Appliance is another innovative offering from Ingres Corporation which will allow Satyam to provide to its customers a low-TCO, quickly deployable and easily manageable BI platform with its integrated reporting & analytics capabilities,” said Kiran Cavale, Senior Vice President, BI DW Practice, Satyam Computer Services.

“BI appliances are redefining the market by helping speed up the BI adoption. Ingres Icebreaker BI Appliance is a move in that direction. TCS leads such market defining opportunities and is focused on building value-added solutions with Ingres to provide their customers with wide choices,” said Deepak Kumar, Director, Global Pre-Sales BIPM, Tata Consultancy Services.
