IBS Solution for Telecommunications Providers Gains Recognition from TeleManagement Forum

9:08 pm   -   June 20th, 2006

IBS, a leader in the Russian IT and consultancy Market, has become the first Russian IT company to gain a high assessment for its work from TeleManagement Forum (TM Forum). TM Forum is an international institution, which establishes new standards and methodologies for OSS/BSS design and development for the telecommunications market.

According to Sergei Alexandrov, the Director of IBS’s Telecommunications Solutions Center, “we have carried out a tremendous work, with its outcome being submitted for evaluation; on the part of TM Forum, a group of experts was formed to analyze our proposal for compliance with their internal criteria. The high opinion of experts has become an important international acknowledgment of our performance quality and a significant contribution to future development of the practice”.

TM Forum has evaluated a number of IBS’s solutions, utilizing the results and techniques proposed by the TM Forum experts. Particular interest was attracted by the IBS-developed SRFAL product (the System of Revealing Fraud and Analysing Operator’s Profit Losses), presented as an international best practice.

IBS is a member of TM Forum and it has been applying the Forum’s documents in its work for over three years. When developing SRFAL, use was made of the key TM Forum’s methodological materials concerning eTOM-based (the enhanced Telecom Operation Map) analysis of customer’s business processes, as well as global approaches and recommendations to secure profits of a communication operator. The system is based on experience gained in the course of project implementation on audit of communication operator profit losses. Deep expertise of IBS’s specialists in telecommunications has made it possible to adapt a large variety of approaches and techniques proposed by TM Forum, in particular, to implement a reactive approach in the form of multy-layer analysis of historical data concerning customer-consumed services.

Pilot implementation of the solution has been carried out in one of the Russian largest communication operators – Uralsvyaz’inform company.

Upon extended analysis, Microsoft product line has been chosen as a software platform for the system development. IBM’s solutions (servers, disk subsystem for bulk data storage, etc.) formed hardware components of the system. Collaboration between IBS, Microsoft, and IBM has made it possible to offer the customer a solution with optimal price-to-performance ratio and high reliability of the system as a whole.

SRFAL is the active monitoring system of profit losses. At present, the works on realization of loss-revealing proactive mechanisms are being under way, as the emphasis should shift from current status monitoring to future problems forecasting, to prevent probable occurrence of troubles.

By interaction with available information systems, SRFAL performs search of data distortions, reveals fraud evidences, thus representing a powerful tool for analyzing the behavior of subscribers and partners, as well as scenarios of unauthorized access to network resources.

Now IBS is being mentioned among international experts, offering solutions for telecommunication companies.

TM Forum’s site presents a description of the solution, and a corresponding reference is made in TMForum Case Study Handbook: 35 Real-World Solutions Using TMForum Standarts; it was also used to make an interactive presentation “Success Stories: How NGOSS is Being put to Work Today”.
