i-conX Earns National Technology Award

11:28 am   -   November 5th, 2008

Deloitte’s Technology Fast 50, a prestigious ranking of Ireland’s fastest growing technology companies, named specialist telecommunications service provider, i-conX Solutions, a national frontrunner.

Now in its ninth year, the finance giant’s annual awards program recognizes economic stability, sustained growth, technological innovation, and entrepreneurial drive. The judges draw upon percentage growth over five years as a key indication of a company’s credibility to contend for the Deloittes’ ‘Fast 50’ accolade and i-conX’s success is testament to a buoyant seven years trading.

Launched in 2001, i-conX has achieved a 40 percent year-on-year increase and its annual turnover now stands at over €2M (as of today, USD $2.6 million). While early objectives focused on establishing its European customer base, since 2006 i-conX has been successfully expanding into less mature markets, with an increasingly high profile presence across the MENA and African regions.

Now with 21 carriers subscribed to its services worldwide; 11 new contracts secured in the past two years alone; and a 100% customer retention rate, i-conX has quickly established itself as the fastest growing vendor and the third most influential operator on a global scale. The company’s unique positioning as the only telecommunications service provider entirely dedicated to interconnect issues has aided its international expansion, attracting big name customers such as Cable & Wireless, 118.com, Ireland’s Smart Telecom and du based in Dubai, and as negotiations on a multi-country deal with one of Europe’s major mobile telco groups comes to a close, i-conX is confident in its continuing growth.

“To be listed within Deloittes’ Technology Fast 50 is an industry-wide benchmark of success and a fantastic tribute to all the hard work and dedication of our team, at home and away,” said i-conX Vice President Sales and Marketing, Gavin Stewart. “Complementing our operational HQ in Dublin we have an international workforce who are willing to provide on-the-ground-support, often operating in politically sensitive environments for months at a time. This unique offering has helped us to quickly penetrate emerging markets in particular and sets us apart from the competition. Moreover, because interconnect is such a specialist area it is especially gratifying for us to be recognized in the broader technology field. Interconnect is exceptionally complex and it takes specific technology and expertise to provide telcos with the absolutely accuracy that billing between networks demands.”

As the only interconnect service provider to have developed its innovative software in-house, i-conX is quickly alerted to any flaws. Its expert team are actively using the system on a daily basis to deliver managed services on behalf of customers subscribed to its outsourced options: a-s-p (a partially outsourced package) and a-s-p plus (its fully outsourced offering). Furthermore, by running its own system, i-conX is able to provide its licensed customers with a truly user friendly format; while ongoing research and development ensures the optimum in interconnect functionality.

Backed by government-led organization, Enterprise Ireland, i-conX invests heavily in harnessing the technology to take on evolving interconnect requirements, thus further strengthening the company’s position as a ‘Deloittes’ Fast 50’ nominee, polling in 35th place.

Announcing the winners of the Technology Fast 50 program, David O’Flannagan, Partner with Deloitte, Dublin, said: “Congratulations to our 2008 Fast 50 winners – their success is indicative of the innovative technology companies present in Ireland. To have 16 new companies in the awards [including i-conX] is a true sign of the talent and creative thinking that is present in the technology industry in Ireland. It is this innovation and fresh thinking that will ensure Ireland’s continued success in this competitive industry.”

About i-conX Solutions

Based in Dublin, Ireland, i-conX Solutions provides expert interconnect services to the telecommunications industry.

Interconnect billing is required at the point when two separate telecoms operators connect with each other as calls are made between networks. Vast sums of money are exchanged daily in mutual compensation agreements between suppliers, with up to 60% of a telecom company’s operating costs attributed to interconnect charges. Therefore, any billing discrepancies can have massive financial impact with the potential to inflict bankruptcy if managed inaccurately. This risk is further exaggerated in that regulatory legislation in many countries allows for anomalies found within the past two (or more) years to be ‘back billed’ – meaning that carriers can receive ‘surprise’ hefty invoices.

Service providers, such as i-conX, ensure that interconnect reconciliation between operators is managed as accurately as possible to significantly reduce risk margins. The i-conX system alerts customers to any errors and substantial gaps in service, tracks missing data and identifies network issues to protect against under-billing and, likewise, the threat of being under or over-charged.
