HP Offers Consulting Services to Telecoms for Aligning Business and Implementing New Technologies
Today, HP announced a comprehensive set of consulting services designed to help communications companies improve their competitiveness, as they adapt to the convergence of telecom, IT, and entertainment.
Building on its deep experience in these industries, HP has created Solutions Consulting Services (SCS), an integrated portfolio of services that translates customers’ strategies and business needs into actionable solutions. With HP SCS, communications service providers can identify new revenue opportunities, enhance the customer experience, improve operational efficiency, and manage the risks of new technology implementation.
At the core of HP SCS is a unique set of assets called HP COSMOS, which includes intellectual property, methodologies, processes, and best practices. HP COSMOS manages transformational change across organizations, operations, and technology.
Emphasizing a holistic approach, HP SCS helps service providers re-examine their business strategies, services, processes, organizations, and systems to expose key interrelationships, then lays the foundation for change. Once business transformation strategies are clearly defined, HP works with service providers to create the new organizational and operational environment, as well as the right technology solutions.
“Working with HP SCS, service providers have achieved measurable revenue gains and operational efficiencies as well as the ability to deliver a better customer experience,” said Sebastiano Tevarotto, vice president and general manager, Communications, Media and Entertainment, HP. “The key to success has been HP’s core competence across the three converging industries of telecom, IT, and entertainment.”

“The market landscape is changing, and service providers must also change to ensure they can deliver a compelling user experience,” said Curtis Price, vice president, Infrastructure Services, IDC. “HP is providing a unique approach to transformational change that starts with a holistic view of all the various elements of transformation and ends with actionable solutions.”

ETB Colombia Taps HP for Strategic Transformation
With almost 2 million customers and 70 percent of the fixed line market, ETB is Colombia’s largest provider of voice services as well as broadband connections. However, old legacy systems and a siloed organization were inhibiting business growth.
ETB asked HP to assess its enterprise architecture and define an evolutionary path toward a more streamlined structure that better supports business strategies. After a thorough architectural evaluation, HP advised ETB how to strategically transform itself to ensure that IT processes, organizations, and technologies are aligned effectively.
“HP expertise was critical in helping ETB modernize our enterprise environment, reduce cost and risk, and, most importantly, remove barriers to achieving our business objectives,” said Claudia Barragan, enterprise architect, ETB. “HP understood our business inside and out, and worked closely with our staff to develop better solutions.”
TUS TELEKOM Streamlines Processes to Reduce Cost and Reduce Time to Revenue
TUS TELEKOM, a leading service provider in Slovenia, needed to align operations with its business objectives. HP began with a “360 degree” analysis of the business, including services for Internet Protocol (IP) voice, broadband Internet, IPTV, and mobile.
After identifying improvements in process and organization, HP developed a mobile service fulfillment process so TUS could enroll new customers quickly, set them up in a service plan and activate them on the network. HP also helped TUS streamline the product development process to speed services to market and ease the transition from development to operations. HP is now working with TUS to optimize processes for billing, complaint management, customer support, customer loyalty, and monitoring.
“The most important value that HP brought to TUS was its experience,” said Andras Pali, chief technology officer, TUS TELEKOM. “HP has helped TUS develop orderly processes, a business-driven organization, and clear lines of accountability. We’re able to reduce operations costs and bring revenue-generating services to market faster.”
Holistic View for Transformational Change
To understand enterprise interrelationships, how they impact the business, and how they can be changed to support the business strategy, the HP SCS portfolio focuses on six areas where solutions can drive needed change:
*** Product innovation – analyze a company’s service offerings against its competition and recommend new services along with related success factors. Use HP predictive technology to forecast service adoption and customer acquisition costs.
*** Process improvement – analyze all business processes to address gaps and overlaps. Deliver optimized processes that support business and operational transformation.
*** Organizational change – evaluate structures to identify inefficient silos, weak links, and poor use of people. Redesign structure to align with business and optimized processes.
*** Architecture optimization – analyze technology infrastructure to identify improvements. Simulate performance of various technology options under projected usage demands.
*** Transformational governance – assess risk and financial impact of change management program. Implement governance that ensures compliance goals are met.
*** Financial evaluation – analyze financial outcome of re-aligning process, organization and technology. Forecast reductions in operational and capital expenditures.
