etisalat’s Network Transformation Begins with Telcordia Network Engineer

2:08 am   -   June 27th, 2006

Telcordia (www.telcordia.com) has announced that the UAE’s Emirates Telecommunications orporation- etisalat- is the first to deploy the latest release of Telcordia(R) Network Engineer to drive operational efficiencies and lower total cost of ownership, supporting its goal of aggressively deploying new technologies and services to its customers in the region. This highly sophisticated, award-winning solution is helping etisalat optimize its fibre network in order to quickly roll-out services, such as IPTV, and streamline its operations with Network Engineer’s automated processes.

“etisalat is continually working to offer new and exciting products and services to our customers, and Telcordia has always delivered first-rate, state-of-the-art solutions that help us deal with today’s operational challenges with an eye on tomorrow’s network,” said Nasser Salim, General Manager- Converged Networks, etisalat. “The evolution of Telcordia’s Network Engineer supports our overall OSS transformation plan, optimizing our network and helping us continue to provide leading edge services in the Middle East.”

etisalat, the incumbent service provider in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has been utilizing Telcordia(R) Network Engineer for several years and recognized that with network convergence a reality, now was the critical time to reap the benefits that the enhanced solution provides. Network Engineer, an end-to-end geospatial network planning and engineering solution for the management of telecommunications networks, helps to simplify network operations, increase customer satisfaction and paves the way for the creation and deployment of new revenue generating advanced services.

etisalat has already realized tremendous benefit from the new deployment of Network Engineer including automated planning and engineering, inside and outside plant management in a single system, improvements in work order management from planning to build-out, and the ability to share information across the company from strategic planning, marketing, sales, field crews, engineers, planners and more. Telcordia’s extensible, open framework allows service providers such as etisalat to manage and deploy services without costly integration.

“etisalat was looking for a system to support any network, any technology and any equipment type for its existing network to enable it to rapidly offer new services to new and existing customers,” said Jon Collins, Regional Vice President, EMEA, Telcordia. “A key element in the decision path was choosing a vendor that could manage network convergence and new network technologies as etisalat continues to grow. Telcordia met the challenge with Network Engineer and has provided the company with a clear migration path to offer advanced services.”

Network Engineer allows for the visual management and planning of networks to maximize network resources, improve customer service, increase data flow and achieve operational efficiency. As a result, network errors are reduced and faster fault resolution can be achieved through accurate identification and location of equipment for etisalat’s extensive field force.

Network Engineer, built on the ESRI(R) GIS(TM) platform, is a comprehensive geospatial solution for the planning, design and management of network and physical inventory. It supports an integrated view of both inside and outside plant engineering and has proven performance and production ready credentials with more than 60 successful implementations in 21 countries. This visually intensive, easy-to-use solution provides a unique combination of land-base information overlaid with network data contained in a sophisticated geo-database that supports all new network technologies.
