Comptel Dynamic OSS Selected by BTC Bahamas for Mediation, Provisioning, and Activation

10:21 am   -   April 28th, 2008

Comptel’s solutions will replace existing solutions from 3rd party

Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC) selected Comptel to supply mediation, provisioning, and activation solutions, as announced today by Comptel Corporation. Existing 3rd party solutions will be replaced to provide the much needed flexibility and reliability to meet the growing popularity of GSM services in the Bahamas.

The current operator in the Bahamas is BTC. The firm serves not only the local population, but also the strong financial and tourism industries, which bring many visitors to the islands – like many operators in the region. BTC offered services predominantly on TDMA and CDMA, network standards that are particularly wide-spread in North-America, until a few years ago. Recently and with the global GSM standard having gained popularity in the Bahamas, most users now are on the GSM network.

Comptel has been used by BTC since 2002 for service mediation, provisioning, and activation for TDMA and CDMA, but until now, other 3rd party solutions were deployed to handle the GSM services. As the number of GSM users grew, services became more complex requiring BTC to search for a more robust and reliable solution. Comptel has now been selected to replace those solutions.

Ms. Nickola Dawkins, CIO at BTC Bahamas, says: “At BTC we have a very demanding customer base, who expect the highest standard of service on an international scale. BTC must be able to deliver services fast and reliably, so we expect an excellent time-to-market and reliable delivery from our suppliers. Having worked with Comptel since 2002, we knew that their Comptel Dynamic OSS solutions would be able to meet our strict criteria.”

Comptel Provisioning and Activation Solution automates the service fulfillment processes. With a single interface, it covers the entire workflow – from service order to start of billing. Comptel Convergent Mediation Solution allows usages from multiple sources to be collected and forwarded to billing and other systems.

Ms. Arnhild Schia, Comptel’s Senior Vice President South and West Europe, Asia Pacific, and Americas concludes: “The evolving business environment of BTC demonstrates the need for OSS to be dynamic and reliable in the way Comptel solutions have proven to be. We are of course delighted that BTC has chosen us as their OSS partner for the future.”

Comptel will be exhibiting at Billing and OSS World 2008 in Chicago , USA , 29 February – 1 May 2008 (stand: 507).
