Plantronics Unveils MX203S Stereo Mobile Headset for MP3 Cell Phones

Plantronics, Inc. (NYSE: PLT - News) today introduced the new MX203S stereo mobile headset for MP3-enabled cell phones. Designed with WindSmart® technology for active users, such as runners and walking commuters, the MX203S provides a single headset to take calls and listen to stereo music with great quality and comfort. Plantronics also unveiled today two additional corded headsets, the MX200 and MX250, to provide mobile users a variety of options for talking on cell phones.

“Increasingly, consumers want devices that are simple, versatile and can keep up with their busy lives,” said Renee Niemi, vice president of Mobile and Entertainment at Plantronics. “The new MX203S accomplishes this while delivering the same high quality sound that Plantronics has provided for more than forty years.”

The market for music-enabled cell phones is growing rapidly. According to Strategy Analytics, sales of music-enabled handsets will jump from $48 million in 2004 to $886 million in 2009. In North America alone, music-enabled handsets will account for 94.7 percent of total handset sales by 2009 (January 2006).

The MX203S features Plantronics’ Flex Grip® under-the-ear design for a secure, comfortable fit while walking or running. The headset also incorporates WindSmart technology for clear conversations in outdoor, windy environments. Users listening to music with the MX203S hear a ring when a call comes in and simply touch a button on the headset to answer/end. (more…)
