BEA Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: BEAS – News), a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software, today welcomed more than 4,000 people to BEAWorld 2006 where they will share and discuss the latest trends in the industry; best practices on successful Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) deployments from local and worldwide enterprises; and ways to optimize and transform business.

“SOA can better solve business-related problems than any technologies,” said Marcus Tsoi, vice president and general manager, BEA China. “We are encouraged to see that more and more Chinese customers making SOA their leading framework for the next generation of IT system and SOA has become a powerful engine for the rapid growth of BEA in China. As a leading SOA platform product and service provider, BEA has provided the most unified SOA platform, SOA 360. It is of great help for Chinese users to effectively deploy SOA and flexibly cope with business application demand and has injected huge impetus for the sustainable and high-speed growth of BEA China in the future.”

Year to date, BEA has grown 40 percent in China vs. last year, and according to latest analyst reports, BEA holds the leading application server position in this market (See IDC report titled “Application Service and Integrated Server Platform Market Analysis and Prediction in Asia-Pacific (excluding Japan) in 2005-2010″). In China middleware market, BEA was ranked No.1 with 28.9 percent market share continuously in Q3, 2006 (See Analysts International report titled “IT Product and Service — Report on 2006 Q3 Middleware Software Market Data”).

China Partners and Customers Deploy SOA Today With SOA 360
BEA attributes ifs rapid growth in China to the company’s leading SOA concept and solutions, innovative technologies and products. Since launch of the BEA AquaLogic product family in mid-2005, the products, along with other BEA products, have seen positive traction with customers in SOA deployment. For example, SinoPec International Prospecting Company (SIPC) has adopted the business information management system which is critical for implementation of BEA AquaLogic. SIPC has 16 functional departments and more than 20 overseas branches around the world, and a highly distributed IT environment. The BEA-based SOA project helped SIPC improve the management and control its data.

Another example of SOA deployment in China is Guizhou Power Grid Information Integration Platform, who in April 2006 went live with a BEA-based SOA solution. The new system integrates data that was distributed on different platforms and application systems, improved decision-making response time and enabled the entire enterprise to easily deploy and upgrade the applications. This improvement enabled the customer to obtain a faster response speed and improved operations.

“BEA SOA solution has better met our demand on data integration and assisted us to cope with the rapidly developing business demand with flexible IT solutions and has provided robust impetus for Guizhou Power Grid’s development,” said Luo Sixi, Director of Security and Production department, Guizhou Power Grid.

Other customers who have selected BEA to develop and deploy SOA solutions include State Administration of Taxation, China Foreign Exchange Trading System, China Mobile, China Netcom, China Post, China Telecom, China Power, China Construction Bank Web application server.

BEA China Excels in Telecommunications and Expands Partner and R&D Investments
In telecommunications, besides maintaining a leading position in such traditional application fields as BSS and OSS, BEA also enters 3G and VoIP fields through cooperation with telecom carriers and network equipment providers and further widens the advantages in telecom field, laying a solid foundation for entering 3G and NGN market in the future. As announced on Dec. 4, 2006, BEA and Huawei Technologies, one of the largest network equipment providers in China, announced the partnership to collaborate in accelerating telecom network operator’s efforts to increase revenue by accelerating the adoption of next-generation telecom networks based on IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). Additionally, BEA unveiled the BEA WebLogic® Conferencing Server, a new product, specifically designed for the Chinese Telecommunications market. BEA WebLogic Conferencing Server runs on BEA WebLogic SIP Server and is designed for IMS implementation for multi-media conference applications, such as voice and video. This product is currently available in China and is designed to help Chinese network operators more quickly develop IMS-NGN services.

BEA also enhanced the company’s partner program in 2006 including launching a value-added distribution. Partners in China include Digitalchina, CS&C, Jade Bird, ECS Technology, etc.

BEA SOA 360 platform is intended to deliver the industry’s most unified Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) platform for business transformation and optimization, in order to help to improve cost structures and to grow new revenue streams. The BEA SOA 360 platform is uniquely architected with the newly unveiled BEA microService Architecture (mSA). The SOA 360 platform spans the three BEA product families — Tuxedo, WebLogic® and AquaLogic — and is supported by the newly previewed SOA collaborative tooling environment, BEA WorkSpace 360. BEA WorkSpace 360 is intended as the industry’s first unified SOA tools to bring business analysts, architects, developers and IT operations professionals into a shared workspace for collaboration and interaction.

About BEAWorld
BEAWorld is the premier event for SOA thought leadership. The conference is designed to provide critical insights, hands on instruction, best practice strategies and opportunities for interaction with like-minded professionals, industry leaders, visionaries and expert practitioners.

In addition to working to help make SOA a successful reality, BEAWorld is the place to find the latest information on BEA’s infrastructure technologies including BEA Tuxedo®, BEA WebLogic and BEA AquaLogic. This year’s show will also include a Partner Showcase, highlighting the latest and most innovative developments from the extensive BEA partner community.

The third and final of three worldwide events is scheduled to begin today, December 13 in Beijing. The first two events took place in San Francisco, California and Prague, Czech Republic earlier this Fall.

About BEA Systems
BEA Systems, Inc. is a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software. BEA’s SOA 360 platform is designed to be the industry’s most unified SOA platform for business transformation and optimization, by helping to improve cost structures and grow new revenue streams.

Aepona, a supplier of application solutions and services to telecoms service providers has announced that it is working with BEA Systems, a world leader in communications infrastructure software innovation, to enhance customers’ network capabilities and increase the availability of next-generation applications and services.

Kieran Dalton from Aepona said: “By enabling our Parlay OSA Gateway and BEA WebLogic Network Gatekeeper to work together, we can provide many advantages for our customers. They can now use both the telecom network integration capabilities of the Aepona product while taking advantage of BEA’s focus on Web Services policy control. This can help improve customers’ ability to provide managed exposure of telecom network capabilities and can extend their networks’ reach to a broader set of applications.

The two companies have successfully completed interoperability testing between Aepona Parlay OSA Gateway and BEA WebLogic Network Gatekeeper™, a standards-based service access and partner relationship management product. With the completion of this interoperability testing, Aepona and BEA are solidifying their partnership by providing products that can be used for an integrated telecom network solution. Network operators can now feel confident that Aepona’s and BEA’s joint offering is designed to interoperate out of-the-box across telecom services.

“The partnership between BEA and Aepona has resulted in tangible benefits for all involved. Making our two products interoperable can strengthen our place in the market and help to ensure that our customers really can have it all,” said Dalton.

“In today’s competitive environment, customers are looking for flexible, off-the-shelf products that can leverage existing network assets and can help drive increased subscriber revenue,” said Mike McHugh, vice president and general manager, BEA WebLogic Communications Platform. “The combination of BEA WebLogic Network Gatekeeper and Aepona Parlay OSA Gateway is designed to deliver customers policy secured web services with robust network integration capabilities, further merging network and IT technologies to offer robust telecom service access solutions.”

Aepona’s OSA Gateway provides an abstract view of a telecommunications network and allows individual capabilities to be exploited through a standard Java API. Built using a service-oriented architecture (SOA), Aepona’s gateway offers a service capability view of the network and provides a future-proof framework for a new generation of applications and services.

BEA WebLogic Network Gatekeeper is the telecommunications industry’s only carrier-grade, standards-based platform designed to integrate policy enforcement, Telecom Web Services, and third party partner management. BEA WebLogic Network Gatekeeper 2.2, the latest version unveiled in June 2006 is designed to deliver new Telecom Web Services and native network application interfaces that can help network operators increase revenue from new, third-party services. With this product, BEA can help network operators safely expose their network assets to developers through an SOA-based architecture, using Telecom Web Services that can implement a range of capabilities such as call routing, text messaging, and billing. This network access, in turn, can help operators increase revenue from both new messaging and location-based services, as well as services from existing legacy networks.

BEA Systems and Aepona continue to work together on targeted customer engagements using the wide range of products and services within their portfolios. For more information about BEA WebLogic Network Gatekeeper, and the BEA WebLogic Communications Platform, please visit http://bea.com/gatekeeper and http://bea.com/wlcom, respectively.

About Aepona
Aepona’s products and services deliver next generation applications to communications services providers today and as they transition to next generation networks such as IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). The company is headquartered in Northern Ireland with offices worldwide.

Aepona has been chosen by blue chip operators, such as Orange, Sprint Nextel, E-Plus, VimpelCom and Bridge Mobile Alliance in Asia for applications and Web services solutions using Aepona’s products and services.

As part of Aepona’s belief in a service layer-driven evolution to IMS, Aepona’s open architecture protects operators’ investment in legacy networks while migrating to an IMS platform. Customer services are hosted in a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) environment yet delivered through the existing legacy network, giving customers the best of both worlds.
