Aperto Announces Availabilty of First License-Exempt WiMAX solutions

Aperto Networks, builder of the world’s most advanced base stations and subscriber units for fixed, portable, and mobile WiMAX applications, has recently announced the availability of PacketMAX solutions that operate in the 5.8 GHz license-exempt band. The products are scheduled for commercial availability in December 2007 and will include the PacketMAX 5000 and PacketMAX 3000 base stations, as well as the PacketMAX 300 and PacketMAX 100 subscriber units. Verizon adds 1.5 million customers in second quarter

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Verizon Wireless, the second-largest U.S. mobile service provider, said on Tuesday it added 1.5 million customers in the second quarter, roughly matching some Wall Street expectations.

The venture between Verizon Communications Inc and Vodafone Group Plc said the growth took its total subscriber base to 68.7 million, including 66.7 million retail customers.

Growth in the second quarter was in line with Stifel Nicolaus' forecast of 1.5 million subscriber additions, but above a Bank of America forecast for 1.34 million.
