Bangalore to Hold MEF World Tour
Important Ethernet Industry Event helped to be brought to India by Tata Communications
Tata Communications announced active participation in securing the upcoming MEF (Metro Ethernet Forum) World Tour - Ethernet Business Services event for India. The Forum is to be held 18 February 2009 at Le Meridien Hotel in Bangalore. The event is being held to educate IT decision-makers from throughout the region about the benefits of adopting Ethernet business services, as Ethernet services continue to transform the world of business communications. The one-day educational event will feature industry speakers and analysts who will outline a variety of cost-saving solutions to address national and global connectivity needs.
Hosted by the MEF, a global non-profit organization at the forefront of Carrier Ethernet development, the seminar will showcase how Ethernet services are enabling both traditional and cutting-edge IT application deployments across global and vertical markets. Long dominant in LAN, Ethernet now represents carrier-class technology and has become the new communications service of choice for metro, national, and international WAN connectivity. As the first MEF-certified provider in India and one of the earliest globally, Tata Communications will play a key role in the MEF World Event, providing several speakers.
“Tata Communications has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the MEF and has supported their global efforts effusively,” said John Hoffman, Head of Ethernet Services for Tata Communications. “We are honored to be part of the MEF’s India event. India is an emerging, strong economy offering formidable growth opportunities.”
With more than 150 active members spanning the globe, the MEF represents all Ethernet industry stakeholder groups. By working closely with other standards bodies, such as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the organization’s mission is to accelerate worldwide adoption of carrier-class Ethernet networks and services. MEF membership and certifications are highly regarded as an indicator of superior quality assurance. With growing international respect and recognition, the MEF is well-known in Europe, the Americas, and Asia. Recent efforts by the MEF are also focusing on India and China.
Tata Communications has played a significant role in revolutionizing Ethernet globally by introducing unique Dedicated Ethernet services, in addition to an existing wide range of Ethernet services, making Ethernet a flexible and cost-effective, network option. As per Current Analysis Competitive Intelligence report “Tata Communications is moving early to capture the attention of the market with a modern carrier Ethernet range that is also certified by the MEF (i.e., 9 & 14 accreditation).”
“Our presence in India is complemented by our relationship with Tata Communications,” said Nan Chen, MEF President. “We take great pride in acknowledging Tata Communications’ role with the MEF—both as a contributing, certified member and for playing a key part in bringing our upcoming event to Bangalore.”
