Amdocs Simplifies the Road to 4G

10:37 am   -   February 17th, 2009

Real-time charging, applications retailing, and turnkey business-support systems solutions for LTE and WiMAX network planning and rollout for monetizing 4G implementations

Amdocs announced new products and services to ensure a more predictable, profitable evolution toward 4G, whether via the Long-Term Evolution (LTE) or worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) standards.

New Amdocs products, including packaged solutions for automating network deployments, high-speed real-time charging and a mobile applications storefront, part of the Amdocs CES Portfolio, bring immediate results, while easing the move to a 4G environment. Even if 4G is a longer-range plan, service providers must begin to prepare for it now, as the services and business models start to take shape over 2.5G and 3G networks. As a result, Amdocs is introducing new LTE/WiMAX-ready products and services:

*** Amdocs Mobile Build Automation Pack: To be released to general availability in March, this packaged solution automates standard engineering processes for any mobile network, including rollout, expansion and transmission upgrade, reducing deployment and ongoing operational costs, offering specific support for LTE and WiMax. It ensures that each of the thousands of backhaul transmission links is proactively managed for optimal capacity utilization and cost. Because it addresses service providers’ requirements for network rollout, expansion and transmission upgrades out of the box and is extensible to meet specific needs, the Amdocs Mobile Build Automation Pack shortens providers’ time to deploy new network assets. It is the newest addition to Amdocs’ comprehensive OSS offering, which include network and capacity planning, service fulfillment, and service and resource management products.

*** Amdocs App Store: This new solution helps service providers to develop and sell the dynamic array of digital applications possible in a 4G world. Amdocs App Store enables service providers to attract and enable collaboration among third-party application developers and content providers, and to provide an online consumer retail experience that rivals the most aggressive competitors in mobile application stores. It is the newest innovation from Amdocs Interactive, which offers digital commerce, partner collaboration, web self-service, search and, with the recent acquisition of ChangingWorlds, personalization and mobile portal solutions to enable service providers to monetize the digital lifestyle and 4G network investments.

*** Amdocs CES - Charging 7.5T: Generally available today, Amdocs CES - Charging 7.5T provides real-time, complex event-rating with unparalleled price-performance. Built to accommodate the exponential growth in data traffic 4G heralds, Charging 7.5T is based on breakthrough new “Turbo Charging” technology and newly designed, highly distributed architecture that allows for massive scalability at significantly lower hardware and software costs. It also provides real-time policy management capabilities, complying with 3GPP LTE requirements, to allow service providers to implement prepaid and real-time spending control limits. Amdocs Charging 7.5T is integrated with Amdocs’ active mediation, which verifies customer policy information-important for minimizing latency (or lag time) in the context of 4G’s advanced usage scenarios such as mobile gaming-and correctly analyzes complicated usage records, and provides accurate and timely data to the billing system.

*** Amdocs BSS Pack: This packaged solution provides the critical business-support systems (BSS) that enable any service provider to launch and monetize any network, up to and including 4G networks and beyond, anywhere in the world. Its order-to-cash functionality includes Amdocs Charging 7.5T, Self Service, Ordering and Contact Center, plus pre-integrated best-practice business processes, such as pre-defined rating schemes and collection paths for mobile services, software-specific system-integration services, and support for third-party hardware. Based on Amdocs’ implementation testing, it estimates that with this pre-packaged solution, service providers can reduce the cost of implementation by up to 60 percent.

“The transition to 4G will bring considerations that span the length of carriers’ infrastructure and systems, from cellsite backhaul to real-time events management to partner collaboration. Those who address these issues early will be able to deliver more services of higher quality at lower cost, giving them more flexibility in the more competitive times ahead,” said Larry Goldman, practice leader - Global Telecom Software, Analysis Mason. “Amdocs is a leader in OSS and BSS, and has distilled years of experience into its offerings. As carriers venture into 4G’s promising yet uncharted waters, a partner like Amdocs can bring much-needed insight and vision.”
