Amdocs Helps Service Providers Stake Their Claim in the Digital Value Chain

8:48 am   -   February 19th, 2009

New App Store solution enables service providers to grow revenue via third-party digital applications and personalized online experiences

BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — At Mobile World Congress 2009, Amdocs (NYSE: DOX), the leading provider of customer experience systems, today announced a new mobile applications portal solution to help service providers gain revenue from, and play a critical role in, mobile applications retailing. Called Amdocs App Store, it provides a collaborative environment in which service providers and their third-party developer partners can develop, sell and profit from the innovative digital applications and value-added services that are the hallmarks of the digital 3G and 4G world.

Arguably, the most visible example of mobile applications retailing today is Apple’s App Store. It famously earned some $30 million in revenue in its first 30 days and more than 300 million downloads in its first five months. Many service providers seeking to reap the potential of this market are initiating their own application store strategies. Amdocs App Store was developed to meet this need.

Amdocs App Store is a collection of packaged digital commerce, partner collaboration and personalization capabilities, and development tools designed to help service providers open their infrastructures in a controlled manner so that innovative third-party developers and content providers can collaborate, create, market, and deliver personalized applications and services (such as games and social networking applications) to consumers via any mobile device. This handset-agnostic approach enables services providers to offer consumers a high-value experience and allows developers to achieve greater reach for their applications.

Amdocs App Store also gives service providers the power and choice to provide partners with secure access to valuable services and business resources that typically would be beyond their reach. For example, using Amdocs App Store, service providers can enable developers to access download rates by customer segment. Such visibility empowers partners to fine-tune their applications for specific buying audiences, maximizing downloads and revenues. Service providers may charge partners for the use of such valuable resources and thus generate new revenue from their existing system and network assets. Thus, with Amdocs App Store, service providers can become central to the applications development and retailing process. They can attract partners that value an open, collaborative environment and access to business-enabling resources. They also can gain the loyalty and higher average revenue per user that typically comes from the purchase and usage of applications and data services from consumers who frequent mobile portals.

Leadership in personalization, portal technology and digital commerce

Amdocs App Store is among the new Amdocs Interactive products, services and solutions that help service providers deliver a superior online customer experience, particularly as they evolve toward ubiquitous all-IP networks. Part of the Amdocs CES (customer experience systems) Portfolio, Amdocs Interactive offerings include commerce, partner collaboration, self-service, web portals, search and, with the recent acquisition of ChangingWorlds, personalization and mobile portals.

Amdocs digital commerce solutions have processed more than 1.3 billion in premium content transactions, representing a retail value of more than $4 billion. And the Amdocs ChangingWorlds personalization technology is used by more than 45 service providers worldwide to engage more than 300 million consumers in highly personalized mobile Internet experiences, both on- and off-portal. In addition, Amdocs offers proven portal implementation services and an Experience Design and Consulting Center that combines Amdocs’ more than 25 years’ experience helping leading service providers develop compelling customer experiences.
