Kabiraâ software to support Hutchison 3G UK’s Expansion of Real-Time Mobile Email, MMS and SMS

Kabira Technologies, Inc. announced today that the UK mobile service provider, Hutchison 3G UK Limited (3 UK), operating under the ‘3’ brand, has integrated its messaging infrastructure using the Kabira Transaction PlatformTM (KTPTM) software. Kabira’s scalable transaction software platform will enable 3 UK to manage increasing demand for its messaging services including MMS, SMS and email for UK customers.

With growth in demand for its messaging services in the UK, 3 UK identified the need for a new Network Application Integration (NAI) technology that could act at the core of its service layer and be capable of handling all messaging events. 3 UK decided to implement a new services layer between its messaging networks, billing system and customer profile server. This NAI services layer helps 3 UK handle rapid growth in messaging traffic volumes, provides flexibility to launch new messaging services faster and works to more effectively control costs. The Kabira Transaction Platform-based services layer can process over 4,000 transactions a second, and enables H3G UK to process messaging transactions simultaneously while at the same time performing real-time charging for each messaging transaction. By deploying Kabira technology, 3 UK provides second ‘Service Control’ capability in their network.

3 UK Chief Technology Officer Graham Baxter states, “The NAI program we run with Kabira is delivering on the strategic objective of providing a real-time transaction processing engine within our services layer to complement our existing technologies. The Kabira KTP platform provides a flexible development environment coupled with a high-performance execution engine running on commodity hardware, all helping to keep our costs down and deliver to our business needs.”

“Messaging is a real success story for 3 UK and Kabira, and is experiencing amazing growth,” said Dirk Epperson, founder and vice president of global marketing at Kabira. “Kabira’s technology delivers the scalability and flexibility that 3 UK requires to manage this growth, so 3 UK’s customers continue to experience the high quality of service they expect and demand. Overall, the system delivers tremendous operational benefits, giving 3 UK the opportunity to quickly innovate with new services.”

“3 UK had very stringent business, functional and performance requirements as well as a challenging timeline for this project,” added Sanjay Saini, vice president of global services at Kabira. “Nonetheless, a joint project implementation team, comprised of 3 UK and Kabira members, attacked this challenge head-on and working diligently, did a fantastic job, delivering on all metrics. We look forward to a long partnership with 3 UK.”
