Redknee (TSX:RKN), a leading provider of business-critical billing and charging software and solutions for communications service providers, announced the closing of its acquisition of Nimbus Systems, a privately-held company that specializes in next generation billing, content settlement and customer care. Redknee announced its intent to acquire Nimbus Systems on July 30, 2010. The closure of the acquisition will immediately increase Redknee s presence in Tier 1 group operators and will open opportunities for Redknee to expand into new geographies and other key verticals.

Caroline Chappell, Analyst at Large, Heavy Reading commented:
The acquisition of Nimbus Systems by Redknee reiterates how the real-time billing and customer care space is becoming one of the most dynamic domains in the industry today. As the world continues to converge towards 3G and 4G networks, the need for robust end-to-end offerings in real-time billing and customer care becomes more urgent as service providers look to drive data revenue and increase profitability.

The technology and product synergies between Nimbus Systems and Redknee s will see the full integration of Nimbus Systems solutions into Redknee s product portfolio. It will provide a broader set of offerings to Redknee s customers as they upgrade or replace legacy systems in order to migrate to next generation billing, charging and customer care platforms. Redknee and Nimbus Systems independently developed software, which includes open APIs, will ensure that Redknee s solutions can be fully integrated into any existing billing systems and are flexible and scalable to the evolving needs of service providers. In addition, the expanded product portfolio will enable service providers to launch more services, while reducing OPEX and time-to-market.

Lucas Skoczkowski, Redknee s CEO commented:
We are excited to announce the closing of this acquisition. We believe that the combined customer base, domain expertise and product portfolio of Redknee and Nimbus Systems will bring new opportunities to accelerate growth and increase our revenues and earnings. As we integrate Nimbus Systems, we will look to cross-sell each-others offerings to our existing combined customer base, while being able to offer new customers a broader range of products and services. In the future, Redknee will consider expanding into new geographies and extend our target markets around our core platform of monetization and customer care management.

Subex Limited, a leading global provider of Operations and Business Support Systems (OSS/BSS), announced that it has successfully completed the implementation of its ROC Fraud Management, the industry-leading Fraud Management solution at Mobinil, Egypt’s leading mobile service provider. Mobinil is part of Orascom Telecom Group, which operates in eleven emerging markets across the Middle-East, Africa and Asia regions and clocked in revenues of US $ 5.4 bn in 2009.

ROC Fraud Management replaces the fraud management system of another vendor. The earlier fraud management solution that Mobinil had installed was throwing up performance issues and hence they were looking to replace the solution. They chose Subex for its superior product functionality and globally acclaimed leadership in the space. As a result of the implementation of ROC Fraud Management, the Cairo-based mobile service operator can now detect and control any kind of fraud for their post-paid services. The solution’s customer pre-check functionality also helps them flag customers who could possibly be re-offending fraudsters.

“We are very happy with the implementation of the fraud management solution from Subex. We now have the required operational ammunition to address all kinds of internal and external fraud. We look forward to working with Subex in the future as well,” said a Mobilnil spokesperson.

Sudeesh Yezhuvath, Chief Operating Officer, Subex Ltd, said, “We are glad that ROC Fraud Management has been successfully implemented at Mobinil. Africa is a key market for us and we are pleased to have been able to help Mobinil, the leader in their market, with the required fraud management capabilities. We continue to remain committed to providing the best to our customers, to allow them to focus on their core business areas, while our solutions successfully manage all mission-critical functions for them.”

ROC Fraud Management, the fraud management component of Subex’s ROC (Revenue Operations Center), is built to help CSPs move towards fraud prevention by eliminating known frauds, reducing free run time, augmenting internal controls and through continuous fraud management process improvement. The solution boasts several industry-leading features, enabling real time reaction through its in-line controls and transaction controls and prioritizes investigation of potential fraud cases through its advanced artificial intelligence (AI) techniques.

Some of Subex ROC Fraud Management’s features are:
•	Pre-check functionality, which runs multiple checks on new subscription against blacklists and identifies fraudsters based on phonetic, exact and combination matches.
•	Patent-pending e-fingerprinting feature, which captures the details of subscriber behaviour and matches against a hot list of previously recorded fraudster fingerprints without relying on any subscriber credentials.
•	IAQ (Intelligent Alarm Qualifier), which uses AI to detect the truly false alarms, thereby increasing analyst productivity and reducing revenue leakage.

Comarch has signed a contract with the E-Plus Group to deliver the innovative network planning and configuration platform for the Operation Support Systems (OSS) area. These managed services over a single platform cover the whole network planning and network configuration process, including inventory and configuration of the Radio Access, Transport and Core Network. Through tight integration with the live network, simplification of business processes and automation of operations, Comarch delivers services improving several KPIs, such as efficiency and time-to-market. Comarch’s responsibilities also cover services supporting the rollout of new technologies, including HSPA+ and LTE.

The Solution
The offered managed services are based on the Comarch Next Generation Network Planning solution and simplify the current OSS landscape of the E-Plus Group. Tight integration with a live network enables planners to see up-to-date network statuses and view the impact of all planned changes. Reorganization of business processes and their setting over the eTOM framework increases efficiency of operations by covering all context-relevant information for the whole network in one place, solely with the task of network planning. Additionally, close cooperation with hardware vendors enables shortening time-to-market for new network features and technologies. The entire platform is hosted and managed by Comarch, who is taking the responsibility for development of the platform following E-Plus business requirements, and who delivers it through the managed service approach. The provided platform is based on market standards and well-defined internal interfaces. All operations are grouped in an extendable service catalogue with self assessment capabilities.

- Building the platform is a part of our innovative strategy of providing OSS solutions as managed services for mobile communication service providers. We recognize extensive interest from the market in replacing current OSS architectures with a managed services solution that allows providers to reduce time-to-market and increase efficiency, maintaining optimum IT infrastructure cost performance. The contract with the E-Plus Group is a major step towards strategy realization – states Piotr Pi?tosa, Vice President of the Management Board, Director of the Telecommunications Business Unit, Comarch S.A.

Subex Ltd, a leading global provider of operations and business support systems (OSS/BSS) announced that it has been selected by Worldstream System and Services to implement its industry leading ROC Fraud Management and Revenue Assurance solutions for the Econet Group. Worldstream Systems & Services is the chosen project management and implementation partner for this and other large IT related projects within the Econet Group. This implementation by Subex will not only cover Econet’s mobile GSM and WCDMA services in Zimbabwe, where Econet has the dominant market share, but also their fixed line and mobile GSM and WCDMA operations in the Kingdom of Lesotho and in the mobile operation in Burundi.

Econet was looking for Fraud Management and Revenue Assurance products that could be centralized in order to improve efficiencies at operational level and to meet the need to optimise revenue and bottom line performance as the group grows the subscriber base in all their operations. Subex’s proven expertise in these two areas, coupled with its established experience in centralized implementations in the African region were factors that contributed to the final decision to appoint Subex as Econet’s partner in finalizing the deal. In addition, Subex’s ability to offer further modules and services over and above the current requirement to meet the long term road map for Econet, with an option to run the applications on a managed service model, were enough for Econet to make Subex their partner of choice.

“As the Econet Group continues to expand their operations, they were keen on implementing solutions that would meet best practice Fraud Management and Revenue Assurance requirements right from the word go. All the reference checks we made on Subex with their existing African customers were positive and thus Subex was the natural choice for us”, said Anthony Carter, CEO, Worldstream Systems & Services.

“We aim to be the partner of choice for telcos in every stage of operation. Helping a service provider like Econet expand their market is an honour for us. This ROC implementation at Econet is yet another major milestone in our journey”, said Sudeesh Yezhuvath, Chief Operating Officer, Subex Ltd.

Subex Ltd, a leading global provider of Operations and Business Support Systems (OSS/BSS) for communications service providers, announced that Eagle Mobile, a leading operator in Albania has signed on Subex’s ROC (Revenue Operations Center) for fraud management to combat fraud in the Albanian market. The project will be executed by Gantek, a key partner, using Subex’s flagship fraud management solution. With this win, Subex further establishes its unassailable position in Central & Eastern Europe, an emerging market for telecom software solutions.

The joint Subex-Gantek solution will allow Eagle Mobile to detect and prevent fraudulent activities using advanced technologies and various modules. The objective is to prevent fraud and increase revenues with the solution. Besides meeting the needs of centralizing the fraud management system, the system also allows the operator to track fraudulent attempts occurring in different service layers through an integrated approach. Using advanced methods of analysis, ROC Fraud Management also eliminates the risks arising from prepaid services, as it does for postpaid services. With this solution Eagle Mobile hopes to grow the Albanian market, by providing services to customers on actual costs, minimizing fraud, and beat competition.

Bülent Dörttepe, the CTO of Eagle Mobile, while emphasizing that they provide services with European standards in Albania, added, “To provide services of high quality standards in the world of Telecom is an indispensable element not only for operational profitability but also for gaining competitive advantage. This Fraud Management solution will provide our customers with services on actual costs by preventing the misuses. We believe that the project we have completed successfully in many countries will accelerate our growth process in Albania.”

“It has been our constant endeavor to provide best in-class products and support to CSPs to achieve better operational efficiencies. This new win is testimony to the fact that our reach is global and we remain committed to our belief of helping operators achieve competitive advantage in their markets. Further, we continue to maintain our significant lead in this space in Central & Eastern Europe. Fraud management is today a growing business driver and our ROC Fraud Management solution is one of the best in its category”, said Sudeesh Yezhuvath, Chief Operating Officer, Subex Ltd.

Amartus, a developer of next generation OSS/BSS solutions, has launched Service Commander, the industry’s first end-to-end next-generation connectivity service automation management platform, enabling service providers to automate their connectivity service delivery process.

The rapid proliferation of next-generation connectivity services required for cloud transport, wireless backhaul, residential and business services has placed increased pressure on carriers to deliver services more rapidly and cost-effectively than ever before. This is a sea change for service providers and Service Commander is the first solution available to automate the design, deployment and operation of those services.

“New connectivity services used to take years to deploy since the service was intrinsically bound up with the particular network equipment deployed. The new, more flexible, connectivity service layer being deployed with modern Ethernet and IP/MPLS equipment can radically decrease that time,” said Mark H. Mortensen, Principal Analyst with Analysys Mason. “But to realize that potential, an operator must deploy modern service-focused management systems to automate the delivery and management of service level connectivity.”

Service Commander has been designed from the ground up to address next-generation connectivity service delivery needs, which include delivery of richer services in compressed time frames with reduced operational costs. Legacy OSS’s are element & network centric and incapable of meeting these requirements.

Service Commander bridges the gap between traditional network and element management solutions and OSS’s need to automate the delivery of customer facing services (CFSs). Service Commander separates the service design phase from the provisioning and operation of services and provides tools specifically built to support the complex mapping between the service and network/element layer which typically involves 100’s of attributes and operations and is highly error prone.

“Over the years, we’ve worked closely with Amartus because of the extensive and unique expertise they bring to our IxRave NGN and services monitoring solution,” said Walker Colston, VP of Converged Monitoring at Ixia. “Solutions such as Service Commander will play a key role for carriers in accelerating the successful deployment of new, high-value services through improved integration and automation.”

Service Commander is built upon Chameleon OS™, Amartus’ next-generation carrier grade management platform designed to support a range of NGN OSS and management solutions including service managers, network managers, element managers, test managers, OSS/BSS gateways, customer self-service portals, and more. Chameleon OS also provides an abstraction layer, which is key to integrating NGN services onto existing OSS environments.

“Our extensive experience in working directly with network equipment vendors and service providers, as well as active standards body participation has uniquely qualified us to build a solution like Service Commander,” said Michael Kearns, CEO of Amartus. “We are pleased to have this opportunity to participate in the transformation from a silo-based to a service-based management world.”

Key features of the software include:

•	Complete service lifecycle management including service design, inventory, discovery, provisioning and assurance
•	Multi-service, multi-technology platform
•	Support for MEF Carrier Ethernet
•	Extensible to support other NG services IP/MPLS and OTN
•	Standards-based OSS model (TMF)
Model driven, open and modular architecture
Rapid customization and integration support
•	Standalone and OSS integration deployment
•	Carrier-grade reliability, scalability & performance

Availability

Service Commander is available now.

About Amartus

Founded in 2003, Amartus develops next generation OSS/BSS and network management solutions for service providers. The company’s flagship product, Service Commander™ is a connectivity service automation management system that integrates existing OSS and network management systems to provide comprehensive end-to-end management for NGN services. Amartus is an active member of leading standards organizations including the TeleManagement Forum (TMN) and Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF).

The company is privately-held and is headquartered in Dublin, Ireland with offices in the U.S. and Poland. More information is at www.amartus.com.

Intec, one of the world’s leading providers of Business Support System (BSS) solutions, has successfully deployed one of its market-leading solutions for Best Buy, a multinational retailer of technology and entertainment products and services. The Intec solution for Best Buy, which is supplied in a managed services model hosted by Intec’s business partner CSC, includes Intec Singl.eView along with Intec’s Inter-mediatE and Inter-activatE products. The Intec solution supports the retailer’s own mobile broadband offering, Best Buy Connect, launched July 11th.

Best Buy selected Intec in 2009 to support its MVNO plans and help the retailer deliver innovative new services to the consumer technology market. Best Buy Connect is an example of one of these offerings, which allows consumers to one-stop-shop for connected solutions by purchasing computers with customizable mobile broadband service plan options.

The virtually unlimited service types supported by the Singl.eView platform will allow Best Buy to offer an expanded array of services, from data plans to innovative content and technology support services. Postpaid, prepaid, and “pay now” are all supported from a truly convergent service billing engine. More importantly, Singl.eView’s inherent flexibility will allow Best Buy to react quickly to changes in what has become the most competitive of landscapes.

“We’re building on the great Best Buy brand and foundation to enable people to rely on us for one-stop shopping and support for their mobile computing experience, and our customer support continues well after purchase,” said Jed Stillman, vice president of Best Buy Connect. “For our customers, the Intec solution means that Best Buy can deliver the flexibility and reliability that we require to effectively serve customers in this space.”

“It is truly an honor to work with an iconic company like Best Buy to bring innovative offerings to consumers. With its support for real-time rating, balance management and thresholds, the Intec solution delivers the flexibility and control needed to manage modern service offers, and provides Best Buy with a solid foundation on which to build a multitude of service offers with confidence,” said Ian Watterson, Vice President Americas, Intec.
